Cape Cod Bluefish Fishing

Bluefish are a hard-fighting, aggressive fish species that are a prized catch in Cape Cod.  Known for their voracious feeding, Bluefish are frequent catches in Cape Cod from May through October, when they chase the huge schools of migrating bait fish.Bluefish are notorious for biting at anything, and hanging on to give you a great fight. The promise of hooking a Bluefish and the legendary battle that ensues lures anglers from around the world to Cape Cod every spring and summer. We recommend that you never put your fingers in a Bluefish’s mouth. They have very sharp teeth, and will literally bite at anything within reach.

Popular methods for catching blues are surface casting poppers or spoons, or trolling with spoons and plugs.Smaller schooling Bluefish, often called snappers, come into Cape Cod in large numbers in mid-May.  These are on average 1-1 ½ pounds. At the peak of the season, adult Bluefish can average 8-15 pounds. They put up a great fight, and many of them are jumpers. The limit for Bluefish in the state of Massachusetts is 10 fish per person per day, and when you fish with Good 2 Go fishing charters, reaching your limit is a definite possibility. Provincetown is a great location for Bluefish fishing, and the fishing grounds are generally close to shore. We will get you out there fast so you can try your hand at fighting these quick, strong aggressive sport fish.

Bluefish are outstanding food fish when fresh, and it is best to filet them as soon as possible after catching. Captain Aubrey is happy to filet your catch when we reach the dock in Provincetown.  Be sure to have a cooler waiting in your vehicle to bring home your share of one of Cape Cod’s great sport fish species.
